Los Angeles Dodgers place Clayton Kershaw on injured list

Clayton Kershaw is now the fifth member of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Opening Day rotation to have hit the injured list.

The Dodgers announced ahead of Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates that Kershaw has been placed on the injured list with left shoulder soreness. The move is retroactive to June 30.

Kershaw, 35, last took to the bump June 27 against the Colorado Rockies. He pitched six innings of one hit baseball as Los Angeles blanked its division rivals by the score of 5-0. He was slated to go Monday. That obviously won’t be the case.

As you can see, Kershaw has been brilliant thus far this season. He is certainly in the conversation for the National League Cy Young. For the future Hall of Famer, this is yet another injury setback. Kershaw has not started as much as 30 games since the 2015 season when he took to the bump for 33 outings.

As for the Los Angeles Dodgers, the injury bug has hit them big time through the first half of the 2023 season.

Kershaw joins fellow starters Julio Urias (hamstring), Dustin May (flexor strain), Noah Syndergaard (blister) and Michael Grove (groin) in having spent time on the injured list this season.

With Kershaw currently on the shelf, Grove will take his turn in the rotation. The former second-round pick out of West Virginia has struggled in brief MLB action over the past two seasons, posting a combined 1-2 record with a 6.24 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 16 games (13 starts).

Los Angeles heads into this week’s action with a 46-37 record and three games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West.
