Two head coaches have already been fired. The Houston Texans shockingly moved on from Bill O’Brien after an 0-4 start. Then, this past Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons fired longtime head coach Dan Quinn after an 0-5 start to the campaign. There seems to be a theme here. NFL teams are not being anywhere near as patient with their coaches during what has already been an odd 2020 NFL campaign. It could very well lead to other head coaches being fired here in the not-so-distant future. Let’s look at the top candidates to be shown the door next.” uploaddate=”2020-10-14 19:58:59″ thumbnailurl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/thumb/660391_t_1602705555.png” contentUrl=”https://cdn.brid.tv/live/partners/17660/sd/660391.mp4″]

The Chicago Bears started this season with a surprising 5-1 record despite not having a quarterback worth a hill of beans. This led to speculation that head coach Matt Nagy could avoid being an in-season fire.

What has transpired since changes this narrative in a big way. Following their disastrous 41-25 blowout defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers on “Sunday Night Football,” the Bears have lost five consecutive games.

It has been ineptitude on top of ineptitude for this organization since Chicago earned a surprise playoff appearance in Nagy’s first season as the Bears’ head coach back in 2018. The Chicago Bears boast a 13-14 record since and simply can’t get out of their own way on offense.

At this point, Chicago has to think long and hard about following the path of the division-rival Detroit Lions, who fired head coach Matt Patricia earlier in the weekend.

Time is now for the Chicago Bears to fire Matt Nagy

It’s not too often that a team like the Chicago Bears would move on from a head coach who has posted a solid 25-18 record in less than three seasons. However, this team has seen some major regression under Matt Nagy. Just look at the Bears’ rankings on offense over the past few years and the dramatic downtick in production.

Total points

That’s about as bad as it gets. However, the stats simply don’t end there. Matt Nagy was seen as a quarterback guru during his stint with the Kansas City Chiefs.

That included working with then-rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he sat behind Alex Smith. Unfortunately, things have gone astray with the Chicago Bears.

Chicago Bears quarterback stats

You can’t be considered a quarterback guru and oversee this type of decline from a former No. 2 overall pick in Mitchell Trubisky.

Some believe that Matt Nagy has used Trubisky to be his scapegoat with the Chicago Bears. Sure Trubisky has not done himself any favors. However, the onus has to be on his head coach. That’s about as clear as day.

Chicago Bears must move forward without Matt Nagy

Assuming for a second Trubisky will not return to the Bears next season, there’s obviously no point in Chicago delaying the inevitable with Nagy.

He’s already a lame-duck head coach for a team that heads into Week 13 with a 5-6 record and losers of five consecutive games. Chicago has no real expectations of making the playoffs this season.

Perhaps, it’s time to see what the Chicago Bears have in quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo as the team’s interim head man for the final five games of the season. Heck, he might display some of the traits in a coach that the Bears had envisioned with Nagy when he was hired back in 2018.

Chicago Bears will remain stagnant with Matt Nagy as head coach

Even with a losing record, it’s hard to imagine Chicago finding a way to land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

With that said, it’s an absolutely loaded class. Someone like Florida’s Kyle Task or Zach Wilson from BYU could be available toward the middle of the first round. Does Chicago really think it’s a good idea to have another young quarterback learn under Matt Nagy? I am not too sure.

Even if the Bears were to avoid selecting a quarterback, who honestly believes Nagy makes sense with another veteran under center in Chicago?

Illinois native Jimmy Garoppolo could potentially be had in a trade. Why not give someone of his ilk a much more respected offensive mind?

Off the top of my head, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy of the Kansas City Chiefs would make more sense than Nagy moving forward. Either way, there’s much sexier options out there.

The time is now for these Chicago Bears to fire Matt Nagy. Sunday’s ugly blowout loss to the Packers adds yet another layer to this.
