Buffalo Bills draft analysis 2024: Pick-by-pick analysis of the Bills draft class

Round 2, 33rd overall: Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State Seminoles

The Buffalo Bills selected wide receiver Keon Coleman with their first pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Coleman, 6-foot-3, was rightfully knocked during the pre-draft process after he posted a sub-par (4.61 seconds) 40 time and he’s a below-average athlete. However, it’s also worth noting that he recorded the fastest speed (20.36 mph) during the gauntlet drill at the NFL Combine.

What Coleman does well is winning ‘above the rim’, using his size and enormous catch radius to make plays with defenders draped around him. He doesn’t offer a to of separation ability, but Coleman does have enough juice in the tank to play in the slot and make some things happen. Coleman is likely going to be maxed out as a No. 2 receiver, but Josh Allen will be able to throw up a lot of football Coleman’s way and feel very confident that he’ll come down with them.

Round 2, 60th overall: Cole Bishop, S, Utah

Following the departures of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poer, the Buffalo Bills address their need at safety. Coming out of Utah, Cole Bishop brings slightly above-average athleticism at 6-foot-2 and that helps him to make some nice plays in front of him. He’s not going to play deep in Buffalo, but Bishop’s high motor will make him a nice fit with Sean McDermott and he can be played near the box.

Round 3, 95th overall: DeWayne Carter, DT, Duke

You can never have enough depth on the defensive line, especially when that big body has the chance to contribute on all three downs. DeWayne Carter received high marks for his maturity and leadership, with a work ethic that should help him have a lengthy career. Power, intelligence and positional flexibility with NFL-ready skills as an interior pass rusher. That’s what the Bills defense is getting.
