Baltimore Ravens in on All-Pro running back ahead of NFL trade deadline

The Baltimore Ravens have had their fair share of injuries and inconsistency at running back recently. The season-ending injury RB1 J.K. Dobbins suffered back in Week 1 is the most-recent example of this.

Despite these issues, Baltimore currently sits at 5-2 on the season. It is among the top Super Bowl contenders due to the play of quarterback Lamar Jackson and a stout defense.

Will this lead to general manager Eric DeCosta making a splash at the running back position ahead of the NFL trade deadline?

Buck Reising of AtoZSports.com and 104.5 The Zone in Tennessee seems to think so. In on everything Titans football, Reising reported recently that Baltimores is the team to watch for star running back Derrick Henry.

“The Baltimore Ravens (5-2) are the team most interested in acquiring Henry as of Wednesday, but any potential deal could fall through if the compensation is not right.”

Report on Baltimore Ravens’ interest in Derrick Henry

It should not come as a surprise that these reports are coming out of Nashville. It was earlier this week that the two-win Titans dealt away multi-time All-Pro safety Kevin Byard to the Philadelphia Eagles. New Titans general manager Ran Carthon has pretty much put a “for sale” sign on his entire roster as Tennessee initiates what promises to be a long-term rebuild.

Ideal. That’s the one way to put it. Adding the former NFL rushing champion to the mix with Jackson’s dual-threat ability would make Baltimore’s offensive backfield nearly unstoppable.

Henry, 29, is in the midst of another banner season (425 yards, 3 TD) after dominating the NFL landscape over the past half-decade.

  • Derrick Henry stats (2018-22): 8,072 yards, 5.2 yards per touch, 70 TD

That’s an average of 1,614 yards and 14 touchdowns per season. Not too shabby.

Given that Henry is also slated to hit free agency and with the devaluation of the running back position in today’s NFL, acquiring him wouldn’t cost a whole heck of a lot for the Ravens. They’re likely looking at a third-round pick and change.
