New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara suspended 3 games for Las Vegas fight

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been suspended for the first three games of the 2023 NFL season, stemming from his involvement in a fight outside of a Las Vegas nightclub in 2022.

While in attendance at the Pro Bowl, Kamara was involved in an altercation with his friends outside an elevator. The victim, Darnell Greene, was first punched and then knocked to the ground. When he was on the ground, video captured Kamara and several people associated with him kicking and stomping on Greene.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kamara is being suspended three games by the NFL following his plea agreement for his involvement in a fight outside a Las Vegas nightclub.

It’s a tough ordeal to be in. You know, I never want to be involved in something where someone gets hurt or severely injured or anything. Poor judgment on my end, definitely a bad decision, but I’m a man. Everything I’ve ever done in my life, I’ve stood on. And I can take accountability for it and I can say when I’m wrong and I was completely wrong.

Kamara, age 28, met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell just days before the league made its decision on his suspension. The meeting reportedly went well, with Kamara expressing significant remorse for his actions and his comments were received favorably by the league.

New Orleans opens the season on Sep. 10 against the Tennessee Titans. Kamara will miss the season-opener followed by the Saints’ matchups against the Carolina Panthers (Sep. 18) and Green Bay Packers (Sep. 24). He’s eligible to return from his suspension on Monday, Sep. 25 and can return to the field in Week 4 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In Kamara’s absence, Jamaal Williams is expected to be the Saints’ featured running back. He will handle a majority of the early-down work in New Orleans, with rookie Kendre Miller serving as the complementary back.

The NFL also suspended Indianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons for his involvement in the fight. Lammons, age 27, was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs at the time of the incident. He was charged with battery in February 2022 and pled not guilty in March 2023.
