The NFL has already seen two blockbuster trades ahead of the Oct. 29 deadline.
It now looks like the league’s two undefeated teams are not resting on their laurels with said deadline approaching.
According to this report from Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright, the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots are among the teams who have put in a call to the Denver Broncos about Pro Bowl receiver Emmanuel Sanders.
As noted in the report, each of these teams have been told that Sanders is not currently available. This makes sense in that Broncos general manager John Elway just recently said that the team is not in sell-off mode.
Though, this could change in short order. Denver finds itself at 2-4 and in the midst of a two-game winning streak. It hosts the first-place Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.
A win in this matchup would pull Denver to within just one game in the AFC West heading into the midway point of the season. At that point, the Broncos would be better off playing out the stretch.
However, a loss would push them to three games behind Kansas City. With Sanders and fellow impending free agent Chris Harris Jr. previously said to be on the block, moving them would make sense.
Sanders, 32, has put up 25 receptions for 307 yards in six games this season. He exited last week’s game with a knee injury, but is expected to play Thursday. Said injury is a bit of a concern given that he suffered a torn Achilles last season.
It’s no secret that New England is in the market for a receiver following the entire Antonio Brown debacle. San Francisco has also attempted blockbuster deals for receivers in the past. That included making a play for Odell Beckham Jr. during the spring.
Among the other teams Allbright mentions in his report, the Green Bay Packers are dealing with a plethora of injuries at receiver. That includes No. 1 pass catcher Davante Adams potentially being out a while with turf toe.
All three of these teams are seen as legit Super Bowl contenders. Adding Sanders to the mix would be a boon. We’ll see whether that is even a possibility following Denver’s Thursday night game.
