Seahawks waive seven-time Pro Bowler Dwight Freeney

In what has to be considered somewhat of a surprising move, the Seattle Seahawks announced on Tuesday that they have waived veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney.

Freeney, 37, signed with Seattle back in October. And in four games with the team, the seven-time Pro Bowler recorded three sacks.

With the injury to fellow veteran defensive end Cliff Avril, it’s surprising that the Seahawks would move on from someone with such a tremendous track record of getting after the quarterback.

Seattle’s defense has also been decimated by injury, as the team has lost both Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor to season-ending injuries.

This could very well be an indication that the Seahawks view Dion Jordan as more of a rotational player moving forward on the season. Jordan was activated to the team’s 53-man roster earlier in November after having not played in an NFL game since 2014.
