Pete Carroll not ruling out possibility Kam Chancellor injury is career-ending

The NFL was rocked by some rather stunning news Saturday morning when it was reported Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor could miss the rest of the season with a neck injury.

Saturday afternoon, head coach Pete Carroll spoke with reporters about this injury.

On the one hand, he’s not ruling out the possibility that Chancellor could return to action this year.

“We’re still looking at what our options are and we’ll continue to do that and evaluate what’s going on. We’re working very closely with him on that,” Carroll said, per Brady Henderson of ESPN.

That’s the good news. However, on the other hand when Carroll was asked if there was a concern the injury could be more serious than season-ending, he said, “We’ll wait and see.”

Now, he’s not saying that Chancellor’s injury is potentially career-threatening. But he’s also not ruling it out.

That’s not tremendously comforting, folks.

We wish Chancellor well as he recovers from the injury that’s ailing him now and hope he can fully recover. Whether that means he returns to the field of play or not is a secondary concern, however, when considering his long-term health.

Chancellor is known for his big hits in the middle of the field as Seattle’s enforcer. He’s dished plenty of them out over the past seven-plus seasons with the Seahawks as an integral member of the Legion of Boom.

In nine games this year, Chancellor has tallied 49 tackles, one forced fumble and one safety.
