Report: Kirk Cousins absolutely will play for Washington in 2017

The Vikings signing Kirk Cousins will go down as one of the worst deals in NFL Free agency this year

After much smoke that Kirk Cousins might play for another team besides Washington in 2017, it appears there is absolutely no fire to this story.

The writing was on the wall that this would be the inevitable turn of events when the San Francisco 49ers signed Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley in free agency this year.

Realistically, that was the only other team Cousins was going to have a chance to play for in 2017, especially given Cleveland’s reported interest in Jimmy Garoppolo and Chicago signing Mike Glennon.

The key phrase in all of this, however, is “in 2017.”

Cousins still reportedly really wants to join his old offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, and the 49ers would likely love to welcome him into the fold as a free agent next year. The quarterback is reportedly not interested at all in signing a long-term deal with Washington — a franchise that once again devolved into a dumpster fire of dysfunction this offseason.

This is going to be an interesting story to follow throughout the 2017 season. Washington has the potential to seriously fall apart at the seams given the recent developments. If that happens, then the rare event of a free agent quarterback hitting the open market will almost certainly come to fruition atĀ the beginningĀ of 2018.
