NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell talked to the media ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft Thursday night. He also seemed to break some Washington Commander sale news in the process.
Appearing on ESPN, Goodell indicated that progress is being made as it relates to finalizing the sale from embattled current owner Daniel Snyder to Josh Harris. The league head also said that he expects an official transaction to be announced next month.
It was reported earlier in April that the Snyder and the Washington Commanders had a deal in place to sell to a group led by Harris for $6 billion. At that point, the pending sale was sent to the league for review. Within the matter of a day, the NFL found no major issues.
“The NFL’s informal review of Josh Harris’s tentative $6.05 billion deal to purchase the Washington Commanders found only minor issues that Harris’s group must resolve, leaving the league and team owners confident the deal would be approved if other obstacles related to the sale can be overcome.”

Harris, the current owner of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils and NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, has long been seen as a favorite to land the NFL franchise. It’s now becoming more of a reality.
Harris’ group also consists of some big-time players.
That includes Mitchell Rales, founder of Glenstone, Danaher Corporation. He is said to have a net worth of $5.6 billion. Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson is also involved as a potential minority owner.
All of this comes at a time when Daniel Snyder continues to find himself under fire for allegations of workplace misconduct and financial wrongdoing. NFL’s willingness to expedite this process is a clear indication that it is happy Snyder will soon be out as the Washington Commanders owner.
