The Washington Commanders came from out of nowhere, going from a fourth-place team in the NFC East to one that reached the NFC Conference Championship in 2024. Yet, they still fell short against the Philadelphia Eagles, by a large margin of 32 points.

That means the Commanders still have some work to do this offseason as they look to upgrade the roster. Recently, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned that the Commanders “could be looking for a complementary receiver” for Terry McLaurin. So, which receivers would fit the Commanders’ needs?

Washington Commanders WR trade and free agency targets for 2025

Most teams struggle to find their alpha receiver, but the Washington Commanders already have that part solved with Terry McLaurin. Now they just need to find another complementary receiver who can soak up some more of Jayden Daniels’ targets.
So, which receivers could the Commanders target?

- Amari Cooper, Buffalo Bills: Soon-to-be 31-year-old pending free agent is a 5x Pro Bowl WR with seven 1,000-yard seasons. Only had 547 yards and 4 TD in 2024, but had a career-high 1,250 yards in 2023.
- Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals: More of a No. 1 option, the 6-foot-4 red zone threat would add height to the receiver room and remove all doubts about the need for a secondary playmaker. Just 26 with two 1,000-yard seasons across five years.
- Stefon Diggs, Houston Texans: Coming off a torn ACL, the 31-year-old had six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and was on pace for a seventh before the injury. A D.C. native, there could be a lot of mutual interest between Diggs and the Commanders.
- Davante Adams, New York Jets (trade): The 32-year-old 3x All-Pro has six 1,000-yard seasons to his name, including for the past five years in a row. While he has the resume of a No. 1 option, Adams could be a high-end WR2 while pursuing a championship in Washington.
- DeAndre Hopkins, Kansas City Chiefs: The soon-to-be 33-year-old had just 610 yards last season, but his production nearly doubled after the trade to the Chiefs, where he averaged 43.7 YPG, respectable numbers for a secondary wideout.
- Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams (trade): One-time All-Pro turns 32 in June, and is three years removed from a record-setting 145 reception, 1,947-yard season in 2021. Could be an ideal No. 2 wideout under Kliff Kingsbury if he can stay on the field for more than the 12 games he played in each of the past two seasons.
- Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers (trade): The 29-year-old has just one 1,000-yard season as a receiver, but Samuel has shown he can be a playmaker as a rusher too. He’d provide an added element to a Washington offense that could use another player capable of turning short gains into large chunks of yards.
- Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks (trade): The 32-year-old slot option has four 1,000-yard seasons but had just 600 yards in 2024. Set to have a $30.8 million cap hit, the Commanders shouldn’t have any trouble prying Lockett away from Seattle.
