Golf legend Tiger Woods said Tuesday he is stepping away from the sport for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on his health after being arrested on a DUI charge in Florida last week.
The 50-year-old was arrested Friday afternoon following a rollover crash near his home on Jupiter Island.
According to the arrest affidavit, Woods attempted to pass a truck, clipped the vehicle, and his Range Rover flipped onto its side. No one was seriously injured in the incident.
Deputies reported observing signs of impairment, including bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils, and profuse sweating, while in the back of an air-conditioned vehicle.
Woods was charged with driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. A search turned up hydrocodone pills in his pocket, though a breathalyzer test showed no alcohol in his system.
He was booked into Martin County jail and later released on bond.

Stepping Away from Golf for Tiger Woods Health Focus
On Tuesday, Woods entered a not guilty plea in court. Hours later, he released a statement on social media addressing the situation.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” he wrote. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”
Woods added:
“I’m committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time.”

Thank goodness he’s taking a moment to at least reflect on the ramifications of what has happened here. Woods has a now-extensive history of driving mishaps, many of which involve prescription drugs.
He truly needs to get it together. Not just for him, but his new love interest, Vanessa Trump, as well as his kids.
The announcement and this latest crash come as Woods had been recovering from multiple back surgeries and was weighing participation in upcoming events, including the Masters.
Further details on the timeline of his absence were not immediately available.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has suggested the 15-time Major champion should spend some time in prison to make him “wake up” to the reality of his situation. He rightly points out that it’s not just about Tiger’s safety.
“When you get behind the wheel impaired, you’re not just putting yourself at risk. You’re putting anybody else on the road, innocent people (at risk),” Portnoy said. “You can’t really make light of it. I have no sympathy for the guy.”
“I don’t know anybody who has ever rolled a car over. This guy rolls it over every two weeks! So, you know what? Put him behind bars, put him in jail for a little bit, and make him wake up.”
Woods’ case remains ongoing in Martin County court.
