Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was carted off the field in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills with a rib injury.
The second-year quarterback suffered the injury after being hit by Bills pass rusher A.J. Epenesa. It was apparent at the time that the former Alabama standout was in a tremendous amount of pain.
With Tua out for the rest of the game, Miami fell by the score of 35-0. It was an absolutely embarrassing performance from Brian Flores’ squad with Jacoby Brissett taking over for Tagovailoa under center.

Initially, X-rays on the ribs were negative with the Dolphins announcing that Tua had suffered bruised ribs. He’ll get an MRI on Monday.
“Don’t know the severity of the injury right now,” Flores told reporters after the game. “But we’re going to run some tests tonight and tomorrow morning and we’ll hopefully have a little more information.”
Remember, the 2020 first-round picks suffered through multiple injuries during his time with the Crimson Tide. That included a season-ending hip injury back in 2019 which threatened his future in professional football. There’s obviously some concern over Tua’s injury history in South Beach.
At 1-1 on the season, Miami will travel to the desert to take on the undefeated Las Vegas Raiders next week. Right now, there’s no telling whether Tua Tagovailoa will be under center for that game.
If not, it will be Brissett’s team. The former Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback completed 24-of-40 passes for a mere 169 yards with zero touchdowns and one interception in Sunday’s shutout loss to Buffalo.
