Tom Brady announces his plans to play in 2022

We all should have known better, but Tom Brady is not done playing professional football just yet. How do we know? He just said as much on his Twitter account, in which he states that he’s realized he still belongs on the football field.

What to expect from Tom Brady in 2022?

As Tom Brady himself states, he’s coming back for his 23rd season, in Tampa. It’s the strongest indication yet that he plans to run it back with Bruce Arians and Co.

They may have to continue clearing some cap space as they build up their 2022 roster, likely reuniting with Rob Gronkowski, who’s a free agent, but if they wish to get past the Los Angeles Rams, more work will have to be done if they hope to get back to the Super Bowl.

What can we expect from Brady himself? Being that he’s fresh off leading the NFL in passing yards and touchdowns, Brady is likely to return to his best form. He damn near retired, only now he’s likely more motivated than ever. The first time he hears someone yell “you should have stayed retired”, he’s only going to have even more of a chip on his shoulder.

If there’s one thing we know, it’s that we should never count Brady out.

For now, we’ll pencil him back in with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his 23rd season, at age 45 like he said all along. But we may also be able to slot him back into the Super Bowl at the end of the 2022-23 football season if his past is any indication of future expectations.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers release statement on Tom Brady

The Buccaneers are obviously ecstatic with the latest developments. Here they were shopping for a new quarterback when they had one all along. What if they had made their move, and landed a different QB, then what would have happened with Brady?

I guess we’ll never know. Instead we have statements from both general manager Jason Licht and coach Arians.
