Family members told WGN9 that they last spoke to Myrtle on Thursday, Sept. 14. After reporting to police that they hadn’t heard from her in several days, law enforcement checked out Brown’s home in Maywood.
Police noted that the house was “out of the ordinary” when they arrived and it led to a search of the property. Sheila Simmons, Myrtle’s sister, told WGN9 that she helped conduct the first search by the creek. It wasn’t until another follow-up search later in the day that her sister’s body was discovered. The death is being investigated as a homicide.
Brown, a Notre Dame alum, entered the NFL in 2010. Signed as an undrafted free agent by the New England Patriots, he climbed his way up from being a practice squad player to eventually becoming the Patriots’ starting safety.
The 6-foot-2 safety played in 26 games with the Patriots, recording three starts in two seasons (2010-’11). He later signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2012, appearing in 45 games with nine starts. Now 35 years old, Brown’s career ended in 2016.
