Despite recent speculation that he could be taking his talents to television, Sean McVay is expected to be back as the Los Angeles Rams head coach in 2023.
This season was a disaster for the Rams. They began their 2022 campaign as the defending Super Bowl champions and ended it with the third-worst record in the league. A few key players from their title team did not return, and several of the important leftovers suffered season-ending injuries. Overall they just did not play as well as expected and it was a season to forget.
Considering the rumors that head coach Sean McVay seriously pondered retiring last spring, it was unsurprising that speculation began over the last couple of weeks that he could again be flirting with the idea of a change in career. However, it seems that notion was put to bed today.

On Friday, ESPN NFL reporter Dianna Russini broke the news that “McVay informed members of the Rams organization that he will be staying on as the head coach” for next season.

If Sean McVay had decided to walk away from the Los Angeles Rams, it could have set off a domino effect that included the retirement of superstar defensive lineman Aaron Donald and the team seriously considering a rebuild of the roster.
However, with one of the elite head coaching minds in the NFL back next season, the Rams will certainly have a chance to bounce back from a 5-12 finish in 2022-2023. The team will have Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford, hopefully, back healthy and they will have a bigger horde of NFL Draft Picks to address issues with in April.
However, they still own one of the most expensive pay rolls in the NFL and won’t have much wiggle room to make major moves in free agency.

Nevertheless, with a talent like McVay the Rams have a very strong chance to at least be a contender for a playoff spot next season if all their key parts return healthy in 2023.
