With Edgar Bennett out, the Green Bay Packers are looking for a new offensive coordinator. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo is expected to be a candidate to replace him.
Overlooking his disastrous tenure as New York’s head man (especially in 2017), McAdoo would make some sense. He was Green Bay’s tight ends coach from 2006-2011 and quarterbacks coach from 2012-2013 before becoming the Giants’ offensive coordinator in 2014. He’s obviously familiar with coach Mike McCarthy’s offense, as well as quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Those are two absolute positives working in his favor.
Of course, the same can be said for Joe Philbin, who Demovsky also identified as a finalist. Philbin was the Miami Dolphins’ head coach from 2012-2015 and has spent the last two seasons as the Indianapolis Colts’ assistant head coach and offensive line coach. Prior to going to Miami, he was a Green Bay assistant from 2003-2011, serving as the offensive coordinator from 2007-2011.
The other reported finalist, James Campen, would be an in-house promotion. Campen has been on the Packers’ coaching staff since 2004, serving as the offensive line coach since 2007.
