Pittsburgh Steelers source reveals which position team is targeting in 2024 NFL Draft

Pittsburgh Steelers

We’re less than two weeks away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, and Pittsburgh Steelers fans are eager to learn which player their team is selecting with the 20th overall pick, barring a trade. Mike Tomlin’s defense has ranked in the top half in points allowed in 14 of his 17 seasons as a head coach, but they still have needs.

The Steelers are also still looking to improve an offense that ranked 28th in scoring. Despite Arthur Smith taking over playcalling duties and Russell Wilson kicking Kenny Pickett to the curb, the offense may be a bigger area of need.

“What are the Steelers thinking in Round 1? “I can’t tell you the player, but I can tell you it’ll be an offensive lineman,” said one team source. There has been buzz about Pittsburgh adding a wide receiver at No. 20, but the feeling I got in making calls to teams this week is that the Steelers believe they’re an elite team at drafting receiver talent outside the top 32 picks, and history backs that up. So someone like Georgia’s Amarius Mims or Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton might make sense here. Either right tackle prospect would allow last year’s first-rounder Broderick Jones to move to his more natural position after a strong rookie season on the right side.”

ESPN’s Matt Miller on Pittsburgh Steelers 2024 NFL Draft rumors

In a draft class that’s rich on offensive line talent, the Steelers could see their team needs align with the best player available. As Miller noted, the Steelers are confident in their ability to identify talented receivers after the first round, and they could take that same approach this year too.
