New rumblings out of Pittsburgh continue to point to Justin Fields still being a possible target for the Steelers despite adding future Hall-of-Famer Russell Wilson to the roster last week.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been busy over the last week remodeling their quarterback room for the 2024 season. They finished the offseason with Mitchell Trubisky, Mason Rudolph, and Kenny Pickett as the three QBs on their roster. However, all of them are now gone.

On Friday the Steelers decided to end the Kenny Pickett era and shipped him off to the Philadelphia Eagles in a deal that landed them a trio of draft picks. The trade was surely spurred on by the fact that the organization signed former Seattle Seahawks great Russell Wilson to a team-friendly contract a few days before.

Many assumed Wilson would be the starting QB in 2024 but it seems that some around Pittsburgh believe the front office could swing a blockbuster trade that would create a serious QB competition in the summer.

Following the Pickett trade, former Washington QB and current ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III claimed “The perfect spot for Justin Fields is in Pittsburgh if the Chicago Bears trade him.” Obviously, that is speculation based on his own opinions of the player and team. But he wasn’t the only one who felt such a trade was still very possible.

937 The Fan radio host Andrew Fillipponi said in an X post yesterday, “There are several people who think there’s something to the Steelers trading for Justin Fields. And think the pick from the Eagles could be going back to Chicago.”

The Pittsburgh Steelers received a third-round pick in April and two seventh-rounders in 2025 for Pickett. Adding to the momentum was fellow 937 The Fan host and CBS Radio talent Chris Mueller who added “I think it’s better than 50/50 that Justin Fields ends up on the Steelers.”

With several teams already filling QB needs and others expected to address them in the NFL Draft, the trade value for the Bears QB has plummeted. This means Pittsburgh certainly could land him for a reasonable price as a safety valve if Russell Wilson’s best days are truly behind him.
