The Montreal Canadiens (15-9-3) are set to face the struggling St. Louis Blues (10-12-7), with the puck drop scheduled for 7:00 pm ET.

Both teams are playing the second leg of back-to-back games, and both are fresh off a hard-fought win.

The Canadiens beat their rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Saturday night, via a great shootout goal by newcomer Alexandre Texier, while the Blues nursed a lead long enough to secure a 2-1 win versus the Ottawa Senators.

However, in the grand scheme of things, the Habs and the Blues have navigated very different paths this season. While the Canadiens continue to tread water, the Blues have hard a very hard time putting together a solid stretch of hockey. They’re ranked 31st in goals per game, and 26th in goals against. The top scorer, Robert Thomas, is yet to score five goals, while netminders Joel Hoefer and Joel Binnington have put up terrible numbers.

Consequently, the trade rumour related to the Blues have started to multiply in recent days. One of the ideal trade targets playing for St. Louis is forward Jordan Kyrou, but he’s unlikely to face the Habs, as he was forced to leave Sunday’s game after sustaining a lower-body injury in the first period.

There are no guarantees in professional sports, however, it’s fair to say the Canadiens will have to beat teams like the Blues if they’re to maintain their grip on a playoff spot.

Potential Lineup Changes

Head coach Martin St-Louis will not meet with the media on Sunday, which means we can’t yet confirm whether Jakub Dobes or Samuel Montembeault will get the start.

Dobes stopped 22 of the 23 shots sent his way on Saturday night, and for all intents and purposes, he should be considered Montreal’s starter, but given that it’s a back-to-back situation there’s a healthy chance St-Louis will rely on veteran Montembeault against the Blues on Sunday.
