Seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs will not return to the Chicago Bears for a 13th season.
According to CSN Chicago, the Bears have told Briggs that they will not be offering him a contract when free agency starts on Tuesday. This isn’t too much of a surprise considering that Briggs himself indicated back in November that he would likely be moving on from Chicago following the season.
At 34 years old, it remains to be seen whether Briggs will garner any interest on the open market. After missing just four games during the first decade of his career, the borderline Hall of Fame candidate has sat out 15 games over the past two seasons.
Briggs will finish his Bears career second on the franchise’s all-time tackle list behind former running partner Brian Urlacher.
