The Dallas Cowboys already added veteran receiver Brandin Cooks to the mix as the team looks to provide Dak Prescott more targets at wide receiver.
Cooks joins a wide receiver room that consists of Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb and veteran Michael Gallup.
Despite this, Dallas is still looking to add depth at this position heading into the 2023 NFL season. According to Cowboys insider Mike Fisher from Sports Illustrated, the ‘Boys are talking trade with the New York Jets surrounding former second-round pick Denzel Mims.
It was earlier on Wednesday that previous reports suggested the Jets would move on from Mims, either via trade or release. Having played just three seasons in the NFL, Mims would be subjected to waivers. A trade for the former Baylor star would guarantee he heads to Big D rather than having to let the waiver wire process play out.
Fisher indicates New York’s asking price for the 25-year-old pass-catcher is a mere conditional future seventh-round pick.

Dallas Cowboys could add depth at wide receiver ahead of training camp

Veterans will report to Cowboys training camp later this week with the first practice being held on July 26. It makes sense to add more depth at wide receiver before then.
Outside of Cooks, Lamb and Gallup, there’s not a whole lot to look at here. Simi Fehoko, Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin combined for six catches a season ago. Adding Mims to the mix would create competition despite his struggles during a three-year run in New Jersey.
- Denzel Mims stats (2020-22): 42 receptions, 676 yards, 0 TD, 45.7% catch rate
Even with those lackluster numbers, acquiring the still-young Mims at the cost of a mere future conditional seventh-round pick would be a no-risk move. Add in the fact that he’s only due a base salary of $1.3 million in 2023, and that’s magnified further.
