New York Knicks rumors have been swirling this offseason regarding the futures of Isaiah Hartenstein and OG Anunoby with New York. While re-signing both players are top priorities for the Knicks’ front office, it might come at another cost this summer.
Hartenstein, age 26, is poised to hit NBA free agency with multiple teams waiting with lucrative contract offers planned. New York does still hold Hartenstein’s Early Bird Rights, allowing the franchise to offer him approximately $16 million for the 2024-’25 season with a total max value of $72 million over four years.

However, both the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Orlando Magic have the cap space to offer Hartenstein significantly more than he could receive in New York. Oklahoma City has been viewed as the favorite to sign Hartenstein, even after the team acquired Alex Caruso. However, circumstances seem to have changed.

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that Hartenstein is now expected to re-sign with the Knicks. New York has gained confidence in recent weeks in its ability to re-sign Hartenstein and there’s a general belief around the league that he will stay in New York as long as the offers are close.
However, Hartenstein will be receiving a significant raise in his next contract. Assuming a deal is reached, New York will have to make some adjustments which could result in Mitchell Robinson being traded very soon.

As Fischer reported, the Knicks have recently started floating Robinson in NBA trade rumors. The former second-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft has drawn interest from multiple clubs, especially with Hartenstein seemingly staying in New York.

According to Ian Begley of SNY, the Knicks are in active trade talks revolving around Robinson and one of the teams involved is the Washington Wizards. While it’s unclear what other NBA teams are interested in Robinson, there are multiple suitors.
A decision could also happen relatively soon. Begley notes that the Knicks would likely want to make a decision on Robinson once Hartenstein’s choice becomes clear. If he re-signs, then Robinson could be flipped not long after. However, as of now, Robinson isn’t expected to be moved before the 2024 NBA Draft.
