It’s well-known the New York Giants will take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but the question remains: who will it be?
The Giants released former franchise quarterback Daniel Jones last November after he failed to live up to the four-year, $160 million deal he received following the 2022 season, when he helped lead New York to the playoffs.
With general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll on the hot seat to turn the franchise around following two disappointing seasons, their jobs literally hinge on who they select to be the team’s future QB.
Insider: New York Giants could be ‘aggressive’ in NFL Draft

The Giants hold the third-overall pick in the upcoming draft after losing a franchise-worst 14 games last season. Two quarterback-needy teams sit ahead of them — the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns — so it’s entirely possible that Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders could be off the board by the time the Giants pick.
That’s why CBS Sports NFL Draft writer Josh Edwards wouldn’t be surprised if the Giants mortgage future draft capital to move up and secure their quarterback. Edwards states that the Giants could be “aggressive” because Schoen and Daboll face uncertain futures.
“If you look at the Giants, it’s kind of known that this is a make-or-break year for Brian Daboll and Joe Schoen. Like, they’ve got to go win,” Edwards told Sportsnaut’s Scott Gulbransen.
“So why would you, as somebody that is not guaranteed the future, be concerned about future draft picks? All they know is that they need a quarterback. They need a reason for hope. They need something to keep them in their job for at least one more year, and trading up the board, future assets be damned, is potentially the way to do that.”
If the Giants are keen on Ward, and with the Titans looking increasingly likely to take him with the first overall pick, New York would need to blow Tennessee away with a trade package that includes future first-round picks.
It’s hard to imagine Schoen and Daboll leading the Giants to a successful season with all the roster holes they need to fill. However, if they manage to move up and select Ward and he develops similarly to Jayden Daniels, they might be able to save their jobs.
