New York Giants set to meet with top 2 receiver prospects in NFL Draft this week

The New York Giants continue to do their due diligence on the talented players that could be available when they are on the clock at No. 25 in the NFL Draft, and that includes upcoming chats with the two players seen as the top wide receivers in this year’s class.

The New York Giants head into the 2023 NFL Draft in a very positive position. The team was the biggest surprise in the league last season as they went from an organization in a rebuild to a playoff team that bounced the NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings from the postseason.

The Giants are well ahead of schedule in year two for head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, however, that does not make their pick in the first round of this month’s draft any less important. The player they take with the 25th selection overall could be pivotal in continuing their progress and a linchpin of their roster for years to come. That is part of why there has been speculation that New York could go in several directions with the pick.

While there are some who believe the New York Giants could take a defensive back with their first selection, wide receiver still remains a major need. New York has a solid base with quarterback Daniel Jones, Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley, and offseason acquisition Darren Waller. However, they need more impact skills players if they hope to contend for the NFC East title next season.

This year’s draft class has some talented pass catchers but not elite talents that are guaranteed to go in the top 20. That is why the team is doing their homework on the best receivers available in 2023 because they very well could fall to them at No. 25.

On Tuesday, NFL Media league insider Tom Pelissero reported that the team is expected to receive a visit from Tennessee star Jalin Hyatt on Wednesday. Hyatt has been a player linked to Big Blue on many mock draft boards.

Yet, Hyatt is not the only star receiver they will meet with in person as fellow NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport noted today that the team will talk to USC star Jordan Addison this week also. Of the two, Addison is the player that could already be off the board by the time the New York Giants make their pick at 25.

Addison had a strong season in 2022 as he tallied 59 catches, 875 yards, and eight touchdowns catching passes from Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and split opportunities with another star receiver in Tahj Washington.

Hyatt had a massive leap forward in his third seen with the Volunteers, as he racked up 1,267 yards on 67 catches. He also averaged just under 19 yards per catch and added 15 touchdowns in 2022.
