NFL GM predicts New York Giants trade for Pro Bowl QB

A strong case could be made that the New York Giants are one of the most QB-needy teams in the NFL after finishing with the 30th and 31st-ranked scoring offense across the past two seasons.

The good news is that none of the quarterbacks from those years are on the roster anymore. The bad news is, there are no quarterbacks on the Giants’ roster right now.

While Tommy DeVito is likely to return, he hasn’t proven capable of being a high-end starter. The Giants do have the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but there’s a sense this team needs to win now with coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen entering their fourth season together, assuredly on the hot seat.

The Giants could try finding their QB of the future in the draft but this is a team that needs to start getting some wins on the board. There’s no better way to accomplish their goal than by turning their offense over to a proven arm with a long history of finding success.

While the NFL offseason is only in the beginning stages, there’s been a large amount of chatter involving the New York Giants trading for a veteran quarterback before the NFL Draft gets underway. This would help accomplish two goals.

For one, the Giants would be getting an experienced quarterback who should be able to build a quick connection with Malik Nabers, effectively boosting their chances to compete right away in 2025.

Two, the Giants would then feel less pressure to select a QB of the future with their first-round pick and could then consider whether they should trade down, take the best player available, or still pick a signal-caller.

Recently, the strongest Giants rumor circulating has to do with an item posted by Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk where an anonymous NFL GM predicted New York would trade for Matthew Stafford this offseason.

“Based on recent reports and public comments and other things churning in the broader NFL rumor mill, one experienced G.M. has a prediction as to how the Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers companion mysteries will be resolved.

Step one, Stafford gets traded to the Giants.
Step two, Rodgers signs with the Rams.

As to the first part, the logic goes like this. Stafford wants a raise over the $27 million the Rams are due to pay him in 2025. If Stafford and the Rams can’t work it out — and if the Giants (with a coach and/or a G.M. on the hot seat) want to make a big swing in the hopes of winning now — they’d be a candidate to pay him and to give the Rams fair and proper trade compensation.”

It’s been suggested that the Rams are seeking a first-round pick in exchange for Stafford. Yet, trading the third overall pick is likely a bit rich. Recently, The Athletic speculated that trade discussions between the Rams and Giants would likely center around the 34th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft instead.

As for the Giants, landing Stafford would give them a significantly higher chance of reaching the playoffs next season and they’d still have the third overall pick to either invest in the best player available or a future franchise quarterback.
