The New Orleans Saints decided to keep quarterback Derek Carr this offseason, opting for some form of stability at the position next season instead of dealing with the massive salary-cap ramifications of cutting him. While Carr will be the Saints starting quarterback in Week 1, New Orleans is doing its homework on quarterback prospects ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
While New Orleans might love to land Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Miami’s Cam Ward, both quarterbacks are expected to be off the board within the first four picks. With so many holes on the Saints roster and the team still dealing with salary-cap constraints, trading up isn’t a realistic option.

Instead, New Orleans is taking a look at signal-callers it could land on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Part of that process includes private workouts. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Saints held a private workout with Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord.
- Kyle McCord stats (ESPN): 4,779 passing yards, 34-12 TD-INT, 66% completion rate, 8.1 yards per attempt, 78.6 ESPN QBR, 3 rushing touchdowns
McCord, age 22, worked one-on-one with Saints quarterback coach Scott Tolzien and his private throwing session seemed to go well. The 6-foot-3 quarterback is currently rated as the fifth-best passer in the class by NFL.com‘s Bucky Brooks and is projected to be taken between Rounds 3 and 4.

According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints are also expected to have top brass at Ole Miss to watch quarterback Jaxson Dart. Among the team officials in attendance will be new head coach Kellen Moore and Tolzien.
- Jaxson Dart stats (ESPN): 4,279 passing yards, 29-6 TD-INT, 69.3% completion rate, 10.8 yards per attempt, 86.3 ESPN QBR, 495 rushing yards, 3 rushing touchdowns
Dart is widely viewed as the third-best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class. While most view him as a second-round talent, there have been some recent NFL rumors that he could sneak into the end of Round 1. However, it seems more likely that New Orleans would hope Dart is available with the 40th pick.
None of this bodes well for quarterback Spencer Rattler, a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Saints front office seems open to giving Moore a chance to work with a young quarterback of his choosing and this is a spot where a rookie could get some opportunities next season.
