Draymond Green will go down as one of the greatest players in Golden State Warriors history. He was a key part of their six trips to the NBA Finals, and four championships over the last decade. However, all good things come to an end.
The Warriors are mired in another disappointing season despite having a very expensive roster. Something needs to give, and it is why they have been linked to various NBA trade rumors for months. However, this week The Athletic NBA insider Sam Amick claimed trading Draymond Green is something the front office has talked about before Thursday’s trade deadline.

If the franchise did move on from four-time All-Star in the next 24 hours — or during the summer — here are five teams that might seriously consider a trade for Draymond Green.
New York Knicks

The current New York Knicks roster is one of the better units in the league. However, they could use some more help on the defensive end. Big man Mitchell Robinson is returning soon but is an injury waiting to happen. Green could be an interesting front-court option that brings more defense, added ball movement, and pushes Josh Hart to the bench to strengthen their second unit for the stretch run.

Detroit Pistons

Green has been linked to a potential return to his hometown since last summer when he was a free agent for a short time. With the Detroit Pistons having a far better season than anyone expected, they are buyers instead of sellers before Thursday’s deadline. Green’s passing skills, defense, and championship pedigree would be a great addition to a very young Pistons squad.
- Draymond Green stats (2024-25): 8.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 5.5 APG, 1.0 SPG, 1.1 BPG, 36% 3PT
Houston Rockets

Most reports suggest the Houston Rockets will not be making any major moves before the deadline. However, they seem one good piece away from being a serious threat to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the West. Adding Draymond Green would push Dillon Brooks to the bench and make them the best defensive team in the league. But the 34-year-old’s added ball-handling skills would certainly help improve the Rockets offense down the stretch.
Los Angeles Lakers

There have long been rumors about Lebron James and the Lakers’ interest in bringing in Green. Following their Luka Doncic trade, their frontcourt is very weak. While they would prefer a traditional center in a trade, if they chose to fully embrace small ball in the second half, Green would be an interesting center option for LA.

Phoenix Suns

A surprising rumor this week is that Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia is a big fan of the fellow Michigan State alum. If they were able to complete a rumored Kevin Durant trade at some point in the next six months, Green going to the desert in the deal seems to be very likely.

Draymond Green Trade Prediction

It seems like the Warriors will make some major moves at some point soon. But trading Draymond Green this week is a longshot. However, don’t be surprised if they revisit the idea this summer. And the Golden State Warriors legend is playing elsewhere in 2025.
