The Miami Heat enter NBA games today in seventh place of the Eastern Conference, but now one of their players is dealing with an incident that goes beyond the reach of basketball.

Miami Heat’s Haywood Highsmith involved in life-altering car crash

According to Andy Slater, the Miami Heat’s Haywood Highsmith reportedly struck another human with his car while the individual was attempting to help a stranded driver in the middle of the road on Tuesday night.

The victim who was allegedly hit by Highsmith’s car has since been taken to the hospital, where they had to have part of their leg amputated by doctors. The individual is currently in critical condition.

While Highsmith is not believed to be injured physically, he has been ruled out of Miami’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night.

“We have been made aware that Highsmith was involved in a car accident heading home from last night’s game. Highsmith is listed as out for tonight’s contest against the San Antonio Spurs due to Personal Reasons. Our hearts go out to those who were injured.”

In his fourth NBA season, Highsmith has started 24 of the 37 games he’s played for the Heat this year, averaging 20.7 minutes per game.
