Since becoming the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Myles Garrett has spent all eight of his seasons with the Cleveland Browns, becoming the face of the franchise in the process. Defensive ends aren’t typically supposed to be your franchise icon, but the former Defensive Player of the Year is a unique talent.

Sometimes, superstars get special treatment. Could that be what happened with Garrett before requesting a trade out of Cleveland?

Myles Garrett ‘broke rules on multiple occasions’

Myles Garrett is a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro. He’s established a reputation for being one of the best players in the NFL.

However, after reaching the postseason just twice in his eight-year career, the 29-year-old demanded a trade to a contender. Weeks later, a four-year, $160 million contract patched up any problems Garrett had.

Yet, now we’re learning about an eyebrow-raising report from The Athletic’s Browns insider Jason Lloyd, who paints a picture of Garrett breaking several team rules. Lloyd even goes so far as to say that the Browns would have been better off trading their franchise icon instead of signing him to an extension, rewarding his behavior.

“It’s well known within the Browns that Garrett is frequently late to the facility. He has skipped mandatory team activities on multiple occasions. Veterans typically police the locker room on those types of things and create the culture of accountability, but here, it’s the best player breaking the rules. That has to change now.”

Perhaps Garrett himself would have been better off, playing for a contender instead of a team that doesn’t have a franchise solution at quarterback. Yet, as far as being late and skipping meetings? While that’s not ideal, no one can question Garrett’s commitment to excellence, where he always shows up on game day.
