Million dollar bet placed on Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl LVII

Every year around this time, we hear several wild stories about various Super Bowl bets. Sometimes it’s something ridiculous, like how long will the national anthem last. For others, they like to keep it simple by betting on the Philadelphia Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LVII.

Last year it was rappers and businessmen creating headlines, whether it was Drake going all-in on Odell Beckham Jr. to have a big day while the Rams emerge victorious. Or Jim McIngvale (Mattress Mack) buying into Joe Burrow and the Bengals to win their first-ever Super Bowl.

As we know now, two-thirds of Drake’s $1.25 million bets paid out (OBJ didn’t quite reach 62 yards), and McIngvale’s attempt didn’t go well, but that likely won’t stop him from trying again.

This time around, the first newsworthy bet comes from an anonymous figure who is a big believer in Nick Sirianni and the Eagles winning the Super Bowl.

According to David Payne Purdum, we now have our first seven-figure bet placed on Super Bowl LVII. While the bettor remains unnamed, a $1 million wager has been placed on the Eagles to defeat the Chiefs. The bet was placed as the Eagles’ money line sits at -125, meaning it would pay out $800,000 if the Eagles manage to win.

Yet, as we all know, if the Eagles lose, this bettor is suddenly out of a million dollars, although we get the feeling they can likely afford to gamble a bit, judging on the size of the wager.

While this million-dollar bet is hard to look past, it’s nothing compared to the massive amounts of bets expected to be placed between now and Feb. 12’s Super Bowl event. According to one source, up to $1.1 billion is expected to be wagered on Super Bowl LVII. If so, it would represent a new Super Bowl record.
