Matt Nagy could be fired from Chicago Bears as soon as Monday

Matt Nagy

Before their Week 12 matchup, a report came out stating Matt Nagy had been told he will be fired after the Chicago Bears‘ Thanksgiving matchup with the Detroit Lions. Four weeks later, Nagy is still calling the shots in Chicago, but probably not for long, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

In his report, Rap states that Nagy could be fired as soon as Monday if the Bears lose to the Seattle Seahawks today.

For most Bears fans, they have been waiting for such a story for weeks, if not years ago.

Nagy has a 32-30 record as head coach of the Bears since taking over in 2018. While his first season went well, going 12-4, the Bears have had two consecutive 8-8 finishes since. Of course, that has only gotten worse this year with the team currently at 4-10.

Coming over from the Kansas City Chiefs after spending a season as their offensive coordinator, Nagy has not been the offensive genius he was tabbed to be. In fact, the Bears have only been good defensively in his tenure. The Bears have finished with a top-20 offense in points or yards just once, coming in his first season in Chicago, when they finished ninth in points scored.

Chicago Bears need to start seeing progress under Matt Nagy

After the organization went all-in with their chips on trading their 2022 first-round pick for Justin Fields, they need to start seeing some progress. Under Nagy, it simply hasn’t happened. One could argue the team has actually gone backwards.

Now, the organization may be finally looking to make a change. For what it’s worth, the top assistants on staff are offensive coordinator Bill Lazor, who has 14 years of NFL experience, and defensive coordinator Sean Desai, who has been with the Bears since 2013. We’ll see how the Bears do today, in what could be Matt Nagy’s last game as a head coach.
