Lost in the madness of the NFL Championship round was the fact that the Dallas Cowboys decided to move on from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after four years of calling plays on Sunday. The news came as an overwhelming surprise, as despite the Cowboys’ struggles, few would point the blame at Moore, who’s interviewed for several head coaching vacancies each of the past couple of seasons, including in Carolina this year.

Yet, Dallas’ potential loss paves the way for Moore to be another team’s gain. In this case, the Los Angeles Chargers stand to benefit. The team announced Moore has been hired as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator and playcaller.

The Chargers, who moved on from Joe Lombardi just three days after their Wild Card playoff loss to Jacksonville, now land another experienced playcaller who is just one year removed from leading the NFL’s highest-scoring offense.

Yet, it’s not like the Cowboys struggled to score points this season either. They still ranked fourth in the NFL, averaging 31.2 points per game. That’s even with backup quarterback Cooper Rush starting five games in Dak Prescott‘s absence.

Moore was also linked to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator vacancy, who is seeking a replacement for Byron Leftwich. The Bucs weren’t the only team expected to get in the mix for Moore, yet, just one day after he and the Cowboys reportedly mutually agreed to part ways, he has landed on his feet, securing another top playcalling job where he gets to work with Justin Herbert.
