Tampa Bay Buccaneers among teams interested in Kellen Moore

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking for a new offensive coordinator and playcaller after parting ways with Byron Leftwich. Kellen Moore is looking for a new job after he mutually agreed that a divorce with the Dallas Cowboys made sense.

Immediately after news of Moore’s departure from the Cowboys broke, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Buccaneers are expected to have significant interest in the young assistant.

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old Moore is expected to interview for the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator opening after they fired Joe Lombardi following the 2022 season.

There’s so many moving parts to these reports. It was earlier in the cycle that Moore interviewed for the Carolina Panthers’ head coach job before they ultimately went with Frank Reich. The young assistant was also a hot name in last year’s cycle. For good reason.

The Cowboys’ offense ranked fourth in scoring this past season and was No.1 in that category back in 2021. Overall, Dallas’ offense finished in the top-six in scoring in three of Moore’s four seasons as its playcaller.

Regardless of what happens with Tom Brady, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in need of some changes on offense. They finished 25th in the league in scoring and 32nd in rushing en route to finishing 8-9 this past regular season. The Bucs’ offense was also a downright disaster in a blowout loss to Moore’s former Dallas Cowboys team in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs.

Whether the Bucs’ interest in Moore is an attempt to entice a Brady return remains to be seen. It’s been looking like the seven-time Super Bowl champion is either going to retire or sign with another team once March comes calling. More recently, it seems that Brady is more open to a return.
