Kansas City Chiefs reportedly could make a huge addition to 2024 coaching staff to aid three-peat

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions, becoming the first team in 20 years to become repeat Super Bowl winners. While the celebration will go on for a few days, there is already a focus shifting to 2024 and potential moves to help this team three-peat.

Kansas City won the Super Bowl and beat the best teams in the NFL throughout the playoffs despite its offense being at its lowest point in the Patrick Mahomes era. Even before the season-ending injury to Joe Thuney, which made things even worse for the Chiefs’ offense in the Super Bowl, Kansas City wasn’t scoring as efficiently as it has in years.

While Thuney’s return in 2024 and the addition of better wide receivers to support Mahomes are critical to this offense rebounding next season, Kansas City could also make slight changes to the coaching staff. While a majority of the staff from the reigning Super Bowl champions will stick around, there is one key addition who could help even more next fall.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, former Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy could return to Kansas City in 2024 with the title of ‘assistant head coach’ on Andy Reid’s staff.

Bieniemy was let out of his contract by Washington after the Commanders hired Dan Quinn as head coach and Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator. Before Kansas City’s AFC Championship Game victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Bieniemy delivered a speech to motivate the Chiefs’ locker room.

While Bieniemy has clashed with Commanders’ players due to his intense coaching style, he is well-liked in Kansas City. Multiple Chiefs’ players credited his film study and play creation for giving them an edge in their Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles one year ago. If Bieniemy wants to coach in 2024, there is obviously a job waiting for him in Kansas City and he would be a strong addition for the Chiefs coaching staff.
