It was back in February of 2020 that Jimmy Garoppolo led his San Francisco 49ers into the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

By now, you likely already know how that turned out for San Francisco. The team blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead with Garoppolo coming up small en route to losing by the score of 31-20.

Fast forward a few years, and Garoppolo finds himself as a member of the Las Vegas Raiders (for now). His former 49ers team is set to take on Kansas City in Super Bowl LVIII in Garoppolo’s adopted hometown of Sin City.

Surprisingly, Garoppolo is not picking his former team to come out on top in this one. Instead, he has the Chiefs winning by the score of 35-31.

Garoppolo, 32, played for the 49ers for parts of six seasons before signing with the Raiders last offseason. He was injured in December of 2022, finding himself replaced by Brock Purdy under center. The rest is history (almost literally).

Purdy put up an historic performance in his first full season as the 49ers’ starting quarterback. Meanwhile, Garoppolo lasted all but six games as the Raiders’ starting quarterback before being replaced by Aidan O’Connell under center. He’ll likely be released next month.

The question here is obvious. Is Garoppolo simply picking against the San Francisco 49ers due to how his tenure with the organization ended?
