NFL world reacts to Jets winning, Jaguars clinching Trevor Lawrence in 2021 NFL Draft

We already knew that the New York Jets were not going to simply give up on the season following last week’s win over the Los Angeles Rams. We also knew that the Jacksonville Jaguars were in the driver’s seat for the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft (Trevor Lawrence) heading into Week 16 after having lost 13 consecutive games.

We now have confirmation regarding the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft and the sweepstakes to land consensus No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence.

Taking on a Browns team that was without its top-four receivers during NFL Week 16, the New York Jets earned their second consecutive victory by the score of 23-16. Meanwhile, the Jaguars were once again humiliated, losing to the Chicago Bears by the score of 41-17. Not only did the Jaguars lose their 14th consecutive game, they clinched the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Jaguars clinch top pick, will land quarterback Trevor Lawrence

To say that the Jaguars have been embarrassingly bad this season would be an understatement. They have now been outscored by nearly 12 points per game.

Remember, it was just a calendar year ago that former late-round pick Gardner Minshew seemed to be the long-term solution in Duval. In fact, the Jaguars traded former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to make room for him as their starter.

Now, in about five months, the Jaguars will have another face of the franchise in that of Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. It really is something to behold.

Jets win second consecutive game, will not land Trevor Lawrence

Sure Adam Gase and Co. winning two games in a season that looked like 0-16 was in the cards is good news. However, these Jets are now guaranteed to miss out on Trevor Lawrence. As the team evaluates Sam Darnold and looks for a new head coach, everything seems to be up in the air right now.

We do have to give the Jets credit for not giving up on the season. Consecutive wins over playoff contenders in that of the Rams and Browns is nothing to sneeze at. With that said, it will lead to more questions this coming offseason.
