There’s no better stage for a matchup between the 49ers and Chiefs. The NFL has wanted to host a Super Bowl in Las Vegas for years and it will be a spectacle. San Francisco is one of the most popular teams in the NFL with a fan base that travels well. Meanwhile, Chiefs Kingdom will be represented at Allegiant Stadium and all of this doesn’t even account for the Taylor Swift factor.

Between the location, the venue, the teams participating and the stakes of this game, it could come as no surprise that the cost of Super Bowl 2024 tickets is higher than ever.

Elsewhere on the secondary market, similar Super Bowl tickets are being sold on TickPick.com at a starting price of $8,300.

The average price for Super Bowl LVIII tickets is $9,800, per TickPick, which is approximately a 70 percent increase over the average price for Super Bowl 57 ($5,795) at this same time last year. For added context, the cheapest tickets for the Super Bowl in 2023 started at $4,5533 to see the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

Some have estimated the average ticket price for Super Bowl LVIII to be even higher, with aggregator TicketIQ telling FrontOfficeSports.com that the average cost for a seat at Allegiant Stadium for the 49ers vs Chiefs game is now $10,572, which would be the highest ever before the Super Bowl outside the COVID-19 pandemic when there were only 25,000 seats available. How much were Super Bowl tickets last year?

Super Bowl tickets in 2023 cost an average of $8,909, which pales in comparison to the average expected cost in 2024 ($12,082).

Average Super Bowl ticket prices by year

The average ticket price for the Super Bowl crossed $10,000 because of the limited capacity (25,000) for Super Bowl 55 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since that game, however, the NFL has now cleared that mark for two of the last three Super Bowls.

The contrast in ticket prices is even more startling when you compare it across different time periods in NFL history, capturing just how fast things have changed and why the Super Bowl is no longer considered fan-friendly for the average football loyalty.

Comparing average Super Bowl ticket prices in different decades

YearAvg. Ticket Price
1974 (Super Bowl VIII)$15 / $1017.25 (inflation)
1984 (Super Bowl XVIII)$60 / $179.73 (inflation)
1994 (Super Bowl XXVIII)$175 / $366 (inflation)
2004 (Super Bowl XXXVIII)$500 / $823.70 (inflation)
2014 (Super Bowl XLVIII)$1,500 / $1,960 (inflation)
2024 (Super Bowl LVIII)$12,082

Considering the rapid inflation in the cost of attending a Super Bowl, it’s no surprise that TV ratings for the NFL’s biggest game shatter records nearly every year. For the average fan, it’s a much more enjoyable experience to stay at home and watch the big game instead of shelling out more than $10,000 for a brief experience.
