NFL insider drops surprise claim from ‘important’ Green Bay Packers source on Aaron Rodgers’ future

While much of the NFL world believes Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the Green Bay Packers is all but over, a top NFL insider claims his best source inside the team is convinced the future Hall-of-Famer will be wearing yellow and green again in 2023.

After a disappointing season came to a close with a stunning Week 18 loss at home to the Detroit Lions, one of the biggest narratives in the league since (beyond most valuable Aaron Rodgers rookie cards) has been about his plans for 2023. With the team even further away from a championship than they were when the quarterback won a second straight MVP in 2021, the assumption is the organization will get out from under the massive sum left on his contract and move into the Jordan Love era at QB.

Unsurprisingly, many QB-needy teams — like the New York Jets — have reportedly been kicking the tires about the possibility of a blockbuster trade for the four-time NFL MVP. However, a new report suggests that Rodgers being on his way out of town may not necessarily be the expectation of key members of the Green Bay front office.

On a Wednesday edition of ESPN’s “Get Up,” NFL insider Jeff Darlington spoke about recent conversations between the Jets and free-agent QB Derek Carr. During the discourse, he explained why a Green Bay Packers source offered some intel that led him to believe Rodgers would not be an upgrade option for New York or any team after March 15.

“I’ve learned two things in the past 24 hours that make me believe it’s time for the Jets to sign Derek Carr. The first of which is a conversation I had with a very important Green Bay Packers source who quite honestly believes Aaron Rodgers will be back with the Packers, and all of this is being overhyped.

“He looks at the contract Aaron Rodgers signed last year, the commitment that he gave to the team and he believes at the end of the day Aaron Rodgers will be back with the Packers.”

Aaron Rodgers has yet to officially make a decision on if he even plans to play in 2023 and was going to use a four-day darkness retreat to help him make a final decision on his future in the NFL and the Green Bay Packers.
