The Green Bay Packers found their next franchise quarterback in Jordan Love, striking gold with another signal-caller who can lead the team to the playoffs and make big plays. Now, the time has come for the Packers front office to reward their quarterback with a lucrative contract extension.
Love is still under contract for the 2024 season thanks to a short-term extension he signed last year. The short-term deal provided him with $13.5 million guaranteed while giving Green Bay flexibility to move on from him if he didn’t play well.

Instead, Love played like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the second half of the season. After leading the youngest team in football to the playoffs, coming within a few plays of beating the eventual NFC champions, Green Bay is reportedly now prepared to reward Love for his production.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers are willing to discuss a new deal for Love that reflects his value as a true starting quarterback. While Green Bay could theoretically let him play out the 2024 season on his current deal, that risks his price tag getting even higher.
Early estimates on a contract extension are around $38-$42 million per season, which would make Love one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. While it’s a lot to pay for a starter with limited experience, Love’s production late in the season warrants it.

The Packers could extend Love’s contract with a structure that further reduces his 2024 cap hit, providing general manager Brian Gutekunst with more money to spend on the roster. However, that would come at the cost of long-term cap flexibility.
Negotiations are expected to ramp up this season, with the Packers’ front office very ready to commit to the 25-year-old quarterback. If Love continues to improve, the extension he signs in 2024 could look like a bargain two years from now.
