The last thing you want to see this late in the season is a star player such as Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks go down to injury.

The NBA MVP candidate and his Bucks are taking on the Boston Celtics in a clash of Eastern Conference titans Tuesday. While Boston has nothing to play for as the top seed heading into the NBA Playoffs, the Bucks are engaged in a five-team race for the No. 2 seed in the conference.

It’s in this that the Bucks are not resting their star player. Could it potentially come back to haunt them?

Antetokounmpo went down in the third quarter via a non-contract injury. He was laboring in pain on the court in Milwaukee.

Teammates initially helped Giannis off the court before he was able to make his way to the locker room on his own. But it’s clear that the Greek Freak was nowhere near 100%.

Giannis Antetokounmpo stats (2023-24): 30.7 PPG, 11.6 RPG, 6.5 APG, 61% shooting

Needless to say, any long-term injury to Giannis would pretty much end the Bucks’ title aspirations. He’s a two-time NBA MVP for a reason.

We’re not going to speculate on the severity of the injury. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that he’ll undergo an MRI on his left calf.

We’ll have updates as soon as they become available.
