Full-time Green Bay Packers quarterback and part-time game show host Aaron Rodgers continues to imply his future is in jeopardy. And perhaps in “Jeopardy!”
Rodgers began a two-week stint as host of “Jeopardy!” on Monday and has serious interest in handling the role of the late Alex Trebek on a full-time basis.
The situation is not overly complicated, to hear Rodgers tell it. At least not as complicated as compared to his contract talks with Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Aaron Rodgers talks hosting Jeopardy, playing football
“I don’t think I’d need to give up football to do it,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show of becoming the full-time host of “Jeopardy!”
“They film 46 days a year. I worked 187 this year in Green Bay. That gives me 178 days to do ‘Jeopardy!’ So I feel like I could fit 46 into that 178 and make it work. It would be a dream job for sure, and I’m not shy at all about saying I want the job. That’s how I went into it. I want an opportunity to be in the mix.”
The celebrity stand-ins on the game show include Anderson Cooper, Savannah Guthrie, Mayim Bialik and Bill Whitaker, correspondent for “60 Minutes.”
Rodgers sees some synergy between his professional path, following Brett Favre in Titletown, and this possible next step.
“I bring an audience from the NFL, and I feel like I appeal to nerdy people, too, because I was a nerd in high school and got caught in that weird phase of wanting to be a jock and an athlete and also really caring about getting good grades,” Rodgers said. “And at the same time, there’s not many bigger fans of the show than me. I’ve been watching it for years and years and years. I respect the show and appreciate the history of it, and also there’s my background of stepping in for a legend and their footsteps. I feel like all that combined makes me a pretty good candidate.”

Aaron Rodgers clarifies statement about future with the Green Bay Packers
How many of those footsteps might be taken in Green Bay still seems clouded in Rodgers’ own mind. He made headlines at the end of the season by opining his future was “up in the air” with the Packers. The team selected quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
“Nothing’s really changed. My future, a lot of it, is out of my control,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show. “That’s why I used a phrase like ‘a beautiful mystery’ because it is quite uncertain which direction things will go. All I can do is play my best, and I feel like last year I did do that. I may have thrown a wrench in some timelines that may have been thought about or desired.”
