Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is active for Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts after missing the past two games with a shoulder injury.
Apparently, he should have remained on the sidelines. Watson threw an ugly interception as the Colts took a 14-7 lead. He also almost had a second interception within the first 15 minutes. Initially this pass was ruled a pick before being overturned on replay. It also led to Watson banging his head on the turf in Indianapolis and having to head to the medical tent.
This isn’t good.
P.J. Walker ended up replacing Watson under center. As of publication of this article, the Browns had not provided an official update on Watson’s status.
Deshaun Watson stats (2023): 64% completion, 678 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT, 87.8 QB rating
Playing under a fully-guaranteed $230 million contract, this is seriously becoming worrisome for the Browns. If their star quarterback can’t stay healthy, it’s going to have some major long-term circumstances for the organization moving forward.
When on the field, Watson has not lived up to expectations since Cleveland acquired him in a blockbuster trade from the Houston Texans ahead of last season. He’s tallied a mere 11 touchdowns with eight interceptions in 10 starts with the Browns. That’s just not going to cut it.
