While he’s only wrapped up one season as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, rumors of Deion Sanders eventually eyeing another promotion to the NFL have lingered since he started his coaching career.

Coach Prime has never given in to such thoughts, even going so far as to suggest that he “would never” become an NFL head coach.

But what happens when his sons, Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders, enter the pros, possibly as soon as the 2025 NFL Draft? Deion already believes Shedeur would have been one of the first players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft. Having coached them in high school and college, it’s not unreasonable to think Deion would be interested in coaching one of his sons in the NFL, too.

Yet, that’s not where Deion’s career is currently headed, according to the Hall of Fame playmaker himself. Sanders insists he’s perfectly fine sticking around as a college football head coach.

“Most people ask me, ‘What you gonna do when they’re out, you’re going to the pros together?’ I said, ‘A real father leads his sons, he doesn’t follow them’. So I’m good, I’ll be here. I ain’t going nowhere, I’m straight, I love Boulder, Colorado, and I cannot wait till they go into the NFL and do their thing.”

Deion Sanders on his Colorado coaching future, and NFL interest

Sanders was later asked where he and his family would be, five to ten years from now, he responded, “The kids will be in the pros, and I’ll be here.”

Even if Deion had a great amount of interest in making the leap to the NFL, first he has to finish stronger at Colorado after a 4-8 effort last season. Yet, if Shedeur Sanders is as good as his father says he is, we could see the Buffaloes forge forward this season, but he’ll need a lot more help from his teammates too.
