Despite a worrying report on Sunday, it looks like the New York Giants could get quarterback Daniel Jones back for Week 9 in a last-ditch effort to try and save what seems to be a lost season for Big Blue.

Following another loss in Week 8, the Giants are in a desperate situation. After a magical season in 2022 where they were one of the big surprises in the NFL as they reached the playoffs and knocked off the Vikings in the Wild Card Round, this season has been a disaster.

They have been defeated in five of their last six and Sunday was a low point as they lost backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor in the second quarter of a game they likely would have won if he or starting QB Daniel Jones were available. However, they have been without Jones for the last three weeks.

Heading into Sunday, there was reportedly hope that the 26-year-old could return in Week 10 if the weakness in his non-throwing arm, due to a neck injury, finally subsided. Well, it seems that his recovery took a notable jump forward over the weekend.

Daniel Jones is on course to return to New York Giants in Week 9

ESPN Giants reporter Jordan Raanan was one of the first to report that “Daniel Jones has been cleared to return from a neck injury” and will be allowed to practice in full this week. While he did practice some last week, it was on a limited basis due to the nerve issues in his left arm. However, it was recently revealed that once he was cleared his return to the field his chances of playing soon after would increase exponentially.

After their stunning overtime loss to the Jets on Sunday, the Giants are now 2-6 and in a deep hole when it comes to trying to make a second trip to the postseason in 2023. The team plays another struggling squad the Las Vegas Raiders on the road in Week 9.

Jones was without star running back Saquon Barkley for several games early in the season. With both back on the field there may be some hope in the organization that the team can get some momentum and rack up a few wins in the coming weeks, especially with their defense playing well of late.
