It seemed inevitable. New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones not being able to hold up behind a disaster class of an offensive line.
Jones entered Sunday’s Week 5 outing against the mighty Miami Dolphins having been sacked 22 times in four games. That included 10 times in last week’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
With New York down 31-13 in the fourth quarter, Jones was sacked for the fifth time in game. This time, Andrew Van Ginkel did the duty with a blindside hit on the quarterback. It was ugly. Really, really ugly. Clean. But ugly.
First off, we’re not even sure who the Giants were attempting to block there. It seems as if the entire Miami defensive front was in Jones’ face.
Secondly, Jones exited the game after the hit. He was almost immediately ruled out with a neck injury.
Jones had completed 14-of-20 passes for 119 yards without a touchdown or an interception before exiting. Couple that with the Giants’ inability to pass protect, and the team is on the verge of falling to 1-4 on the season after earning a playoff appearance a season ago.

As you can tell, Jones struggled through the first four games of the season. The main culprit here has obviously been the Giants’ struggles on the offensive line.
All of this comes after the former top-10 pick inked a four-year, $160 million contract extension during the spring. In reality, it’s been a perfect storm of disaster for Jones and the Giants.
As for Jones’ injury, we’ll have further updates when they become available. For now, it does not look good at all.
