The New York Jets hosted running back Dalvin Cook, becoming the first NFL team to host the four-time Pro Bowl selection following his release by the Minnesota Vikings. With training camp underway, we’re now moving closer to Cook joining a team.
Immediately after being cut by Minnesota, Cook received interest from a number of contenders in the AFC. However, the veteran offensive weapon hadn’t taken a visit until touring the Jets’ facility at the end of July.

In the days following his visit, reports surfaced that the Jets were left with the feeling that Cook had a ‘bizarre’ visit with the team. Days later, his trainer trolled fans on social media by suggesting Cook was trash-talking the Jets during private workouts after the visit. However, it now appears a partnership could be on the table.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, talks between the Jets and Cook are expected to ‘accelerate’ in the next few days. With New York not playing another preseason game until Aug. 12, there’s now time for the Jets’ front office to focus more on negotiations with Cook.
Importantly, per Florio, other NFL teams remain involved. The Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots have a long-standing interest in Cook. While New England has brought in Leonard Fournette and Ezekiel Elliott for free-agent visits, it’s still exploring all options in free agency.

One other team to reportedly keep an eye on is the Denver Broncos. Despite running back Javonte Williams being ahead of schedule in his return from knee surgery in 2022, the Broncos’ desire to run the football more with Sean Payton has landed Cook on Denver’s radar.
For now, the Jets and Dolphins remain the favorites for Cook. Miami once had the edge due to Cook’s ties to Florida, but the Jets’ creation of cap space and their recent visit with the Pro Bowl running back could swing him to New York.
