Most of the talk surrounding the Dallas Cowboys at minicamp this week has surrounded star quarterback Dak Prescott returning 100% from the ankle injury he suffered last season in a game against the New York Giants.
However, another ankle injury became the talk of Frisco on Wednesday. Reports broke that star wide receiver Amari Cooper suffered an “irritation” to his ankle during a workout a couple weeks ago.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, this could force the Pro Bowl wide receiver to miss the start of training camp late next month. The injury is said to be minor.
With that said, the Dallas Cowboys would like to have their full complement of pass-catchers on the field when they open training camp on July 21 ahead of the Hall of Fame Game in early August.
The good news for Dallas is that it has an absolutely loaded group of wide receivers, including youngsters CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup. Even with Prescott missing all but five games a season ago, these receivers were able to produce at a high clip with Andy Dalton tossing them the rock.
Tight end Dalton Schultz added 63 catches for 615 yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, fellow tight end Blake Jarwin is returning from a torn ACL that cost him all but one game last season. Back in 2019, Jarwin caught 31 passes for 365 yards.
That’s a whole heck of a lot of skill-position talent for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott as he looks to fully return from last season’s devastating injury. Let’s just hope Cooper is 100% come Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
