Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth—two of the greatest hitters in baseball history. Rarely do we see footage of either of these true legends struggling at the plate.
As CBS Sports baseball writer Mike Axisa points out, these are some hilariously ugly swings. Axisa—along with Grantland’s Jonah Keri made separate trips to MLB Productions headquarters in New Jersey and were able to share this absolute treasure with the masses.
Not only do we see Cobb and Ruth completing some ugly hacks at the baseball, Walter Johnson—one of the greatest pitchers of all time—can be seen throwing pitches from the bump.
However, it’s the swings of those two greats that have to catch our eye.
At one point in the video, we can see Cobb seemingly struggling physically to take a rip at the baseball. It definitely lends credence to the idea that these greats of the past were not exactly the greatest of athletes.
