Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore is attending the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland, presumably because he expects to be selected in the first round. Unfortunately, if the oddsmakers are correct, he could be in for a long green room wait on Thursday night that may not end.

The latest SBD NFL Draft odds suggest Barmore is most likely not to hear his name called — or, will at least be the last one to be picked — in the first round. Here are the full listings for the dubious “last man standing” honor:

PlayerLast Man Standing odds
Christian Barmore, iDL, Alabama+125
Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami+185
Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech+1100
Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State+2900
Rashawn Slater, OL, Northwestern+4500
Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama+7000
Mac Jones, QB, Alabama+7500
DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama+8000

Bear in mind, reigning NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers waited longer than expected once upon a time, and it was broadcast to the whole world. Rodgers used that to fuel his Hall of Fame career and, against all reasonable expectations, turned out to be a better player than his legendary predecessor, Brett Favre.

Is Christian Barmore really going to fall most among 2021 NFL Draft attendees?

Christian Barmore doesn’t play the most celebrated position, but the interior defensive linemen group in this 2021 class isn’t thought to be very strong. The Crimson Tide star is very clearly the cream of the crop. His eight sacks in 2020 and dominance in the College Football Playoff suggest big things could be in store for Barmore as a pro.

Miami pass-rusher Gregory Rousseau put up 19.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks in 2019 before opting out last year. His one-year wonder status makes him a wild card. Several other boom-or-bust edge defender prospects such as Jayson Oweh and Jaelan Phillips have far superior athleticism to Rousseau, and should merit consideration before he does in Round 1.

The superior depth of edge defenders should actually make Rousseau the favorite to be the last man in the green room. Barmore’s interior pass-rushing ability and quickness for his size should be coveted, because he can actually open up opportunities for his future teammates on the outside to make plays.

Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley wouldn’t have been an outlandish pick to the Atlanta Falcons at fourth overall before medical red flags put a dent in his draft stock. Farley is the most physically gifted defensive back to come out since Jalen Ramsey, though, so it’s unlikely that someone won’t take the risk on him rather early.

If you want to wager on one of the favorites, Rousseau seems like the way to go, but who are some long shots who’d actually be decent bets to place in the event you’d rather just have some fun with some crazy long odds?
